Introduction to the Teaching Material Production Process with the Open University through IKOM Student Activities
Communication Science Study Program of State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta visited The Open University located in Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang on November 28, 2024 as one of a series of Student Activity events. The activity began with an introduction from the Open University P2BAM (Multimedia Teaching Material Production Center) team, namely Mr. Chandra as the teaching material preparation manager, Mr. Hafidh as the teaching material production manager, Mr. Susilo Edi as the head of TU, Mr. Imron, and Dr. Lidwina Sri Ardiasih, S.Pd., M.Ed. as the representative of the P2BAM team leader.
Furthermore, Ms. Lidwina and her team explained about the production process of Open University (UT) teaching materials. In collaboration with experts and lecturers from various universities, UT presents interactive teaching materials using Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Currently, AR technology is only implemented in the field of science, the hope is that other scientific fields such as social will get the implementation of similar technology.
The Open University teaching materials also provide features that are friendly to people with disabilities. An example is audio textbooks that function to support the learning process of visually impaired students. Digitization of printed books has been carried out, currently, there are more than 1170 digital books/journals that can be accessed on the UT website, and also in applications that can be downloaded through the Appstore and Playstore. These literatures have been accessible to the public since the Covid-19 pandemic. They also presents content that is distributed through social media and UT's radio. This is done to convey information and promotions related to activities organized by UT.
This visit was attended by 3 lecturers along with 12 students and 1 staff of the Communication Science study program. The visit was conducted to introduce how the Open University teaching material production process to visiting lecturers, students, and staff. The visit ended with a tour of the Open University Building and the submission of a plaque from UIN Sunan Kalijaga as a form of gratitude for being welcomed. (fan/him/iu/red)
