Solidarity for Sumatera: Communication Student Communities Raise IDR 11 Million for Flood Relief
YOGYAKARTA – Demonstrating a strong commitment to social responsibility, students from the Department of Communication Studies at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta successfully organized a humanitarian fundraising campaign to assist victims of the recent floods in North Sumatra and Aceh.
This collaborative initiative brought together the Tanjungsari Branch of the Muhammadiyah Student Association (PC IPM) and various student interest communities within the department. Participating groups included Neon (Photography), MOV (Broadcasting), Kostrad (Advertising), PRo (Public Relations), Idekata (Journalism), and Pukul Mundur (Film), all uniting for a common humanitarian cause.
The strong synergy among these student organizations yielded significant results. The organizing committee reported a total collection of IDR 11,000,000 (eleven million rupiahs). Donations were gathered from the student body, the general public in Yogyakarta, and generous donors moved by the plight of the flood victims.
A representative from the organizing committee expressed deep appreciation to all involved parties. "We extend our deepest gratitude to our fellow community members and all donors who contributed. Thanks to our collaboration and shared concern, these funds can now be distributed to help alleviate the burden of our brothers and sisters in the disaster-affected areas," stated a representative from MOV Broadcasting.
This initiative serves as a testament that Communication Studies students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga excel not only in academics and media creativity but also possess a high degree of social sensitivity in responding to national humanitarian issues. It is hoped that the funds raised will bring tangible relief and blessings to both the victims and the donors.
