Enhancing Gen Z Competitiveness: UIN Sunan Kalijaga and MAW Talk Host “MAW Institute Goes to Campus”

YOGYAKARTA, November 28, 2025 — The Communication Science Study Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, in collaboration with Media MAW Talk, successfully convened the Yogyakarta edition of "MAW Institute Goes to Campus." The event, themed "Curi Start Menembus Rekrutmen Perusahaan Idola" (Getting a Head Start to Breakthrough Dream Company Recruitment), drew hundreds of participants from various universities across Yogyakarta, including UIN Sunan Kalijaga, UGM, UII, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, and UNU Yogyakarta, highlighting the immense enthusiasm among students for career preparation.

Held at the Convention Hall, 2nd Floor, the event featured three distinguished experts in communication, career development, and human resources: Asmono Wikan (CEO of PR Indonesia Group & Founder of MAW Talk), Puthut Ardianto (Lecturer & Student Career Development Practitioner), and R. Anggiwidya Garini, S.Ak., M.M. (Chief of Human Resources Development Professional) . The program was structured as an interactive talk show, featuring Q&A sessions and live CV reviews to provide hands-on learning experiences for attendees.

Secretary of the Communication Science Study Program, Alip Kunandar, S.Sos., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for this strategic collaboration. "Representing the Head of the Study Program and the department, I am very grateful for this collaboration, especially with the theme focused on recruitment strategies. This is crucial for students to understand because today, their fear is no longer meeting their future in-laws, but facing HR managers. We hope such collaborations will continue in the future," he stated.

Asmono Wikan, Founder & Chairman of MAW Talk, opened the event by addressing the challenges faced by Gen Z in entering the workforce. "As an industry player, I observe that some Gen Z individuals today lack confidence. Many surveys indicate that Gen Z finds it difficult to secure employment. This is a national phenomenon we need to examine together. Professional qualifications are shifting due to the 'tournament of the times' and the presence of AI. We want to ignite your spirit to be ready for the future," Wikan explained.

During the session, the speakers provided insights from their respective fields:

Asmono Wikan emphasized the industry perspective: "In media, advertising, and public relations, adaptability, creativity, and digital literacy are prerequisites. Gen Z needs to strengthen self-branding early on to avoid being left behind".

Puthut Ardianto discussed student career planning: "Career readiness is not just about GPA. It involves self-awareness, branding, experience, portfolios, and work ethic. Small experiences like organizations and internships will shape your professional narrative".

R. Anggiwidya Garini highlighted the HR perspective: "HR professionals only need 7–10 seconds for initial screening. CVs must be concise, relevant, and clear. Many students are nervous not because they are incapable, but because they cannot articulate their value".

The event fostered a warm and interactive atmosphere, with students actively raising questions regarding interview challenges, in-demand industry skills, portfolio building, and the impact of AI on recruitment. The CV review session was a highlight, where selected participants received direct feedback from HR professionals regarding competitive CV standards.

Through this initiative, MAW Talk and the Communication Science Study Program reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening student career readiness and providing competency development programs relevant to industry needs. This collaboration is expected to continue supporting the competitiveness of Gen Z students in the future workforce.
