UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Communication Science Study Program held a workshop and curriculum review for Merdeka Learning Merdeka Campus (MBKM) by presenting education expert Prof. Dr. Puji Lestari, M.Si. The event which took place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, was attended by lecturers, students, and stakeholders. The event was opened by the Dean of Fishum UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Dr. Mochamad Sodik M.Si.
This workshop aims to refine and improve the quality of the MBKM curriculum that is being implemented in the Communication Studies Program. The MBKM curriculum is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to provide freedom to students in determining the courses they want to take, thus encouraging student creativity and interest in learning.
Prof. Dr. Puji Lestari, M.Si, as the keynote speaker, discussed the concept and implementation of MBKM and provided a critical view of the existing curriculum. In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of curriculum adaptation to the times, changing labor market needs, and information technology. The workshop was also enlivened by Alip Kunandar, M.Si, as the moderator. Alip Kunandar opened a question and answer session and discussion, providing opportunities for participants to share views, experiences, and innovative ideas related to the MBKM curriculum.
"We hope that this workshop can provide a better understanding of the implementation of MBKM in the Communication Studies Program. With discussions and reviews, we strive to produce a curriculum that is relevant, responsive, and able to produce graduates who are ready to face challenges in the real world," said Dr. Rama Kertamukti, Head of Communication Science at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
The event was attended by more than 30 participants, consisting of lecturers, teaching staff, and students of the Communication Science Study Program. All parties are expected to make positive contributions to improve the quality of education and bring benefits to students in pursuing career success in the future.
