Mendeley's training was guided directly by the Head of the Communication Studies Study Program, Dr. Rama Kertamukti
The flow of globalization requires academics to be able to answer the challenges that are getting faster by improving their academic quality. One of the skills needed to face the development of today's era is creativity. Writing scientific papers must involve the writing principle "The writing of scientific paper requires conceptual bridges from what is already known, cognitive structures to get information, and outlines as presentation for interpretation to new things" (Nasution, 2016). One of the database applications that can be used to make it easier for students to manage references and write scientific papers is the reference manager. Making citations using the Mendeley app is one of the demands on journals to accept a manuscript, as all eligible references are uploaded to the Mendeley device for eligibility assessment.
However, it is still found that most students who are writing their final assignments make citations and bibliography manually in the Communication Studies Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Students still find it difficult, when the thesis proposal submitted is asked to change the style and demands to use Mendeley software. Basically, using available database applications is free or unpaid, but often these applications cannot be provided by students due to limited knowledge. Knowledge of operating Mendeley is important for students of the Communication Science Study Program at Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta State Islamic University, therefore to get to the "mandatory" all theses based on the reference manager application, the Study Program is. Communication Studies UIN Sunan Kalijaga held Mendeley Training for all students working on thesis. This training also supports the readiness to face thesis writing. The training was guided directly by the Head of the Communication Studies Study Program, Dr. Rama Kertamukti with material on how to cite scientific articles, make literature reviews, find articles that match the thesis made and create a research group at Mendeley.
