YOGYAKARTA – The Department of Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FISHUM), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, successfully hosted a Guest Lecture on Thursday (30/10/2025). Held in the Multimedia Room on the 1st Floor of FISHUM, the event featured Dr. Drs. KRT. W. Pandapotan Rambe, M.Si., a Communication Studies lecturer and former Dean of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences (FISE) at Universitas Respati Yogyakarta (UNRIYO), as the keynote speaker.
Under the overarching theme of "Media and Communication Research," the lecture focused on the specific topic: "Communication Ethics and Non-Verbal Communication: MERDEKA!!!". The event aimed to enrich students' insights and deepen their understanding of crucial aspects within communication practices.
In his presentation, Dr. Pandapotan Rambe outlined the importance of ethics as a fundamental foundation in every communication process, whether interpersonal or mass communication. Furthermore, the speaker delved into the nuances of non-verbal communication—such as body language, facial expressions, and intonation—noting that these elements often carry more weight and impact than the verbal message itself.
The event, which ran from 08:00 to 10:00 WIB, was attended by Communication Studies students. Participants appeared enthusiastic, paying close attention to the material and actively engaging in an interactive discussion and Q&A session.
Through this guest lecture, the Department of Communication Studies at UIN Sunan Kalijaga hopes that students will gain fresh perspectives and practical knowledge relevant to professional challenges, enabling them to effectively apply ethical principles and non-verbal sensitivity in their future careers.
