Facing the AI Era: Guest Lecture Urges Communication Students to Foster Integrity and Adaptability

YOGYAKARTA – The Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FISHUM), UIN Sunan Kalijaga, held another guest lecture for the Introduction to Communication Science course on Friday (November 28, 2025). Under the theme "AI is a Symptom of Change: Adapt!", the event was attended by the entire class of 2025 to provide them with the mental preparation necessary for their higher education journey.

On this occasion, the Communication Science Study Program invited industry practitioner Aliyya Firdausy, S.I.Kom., who currently serves as Senior Business Intelligence and Development at PT Sigma Digital Nusantara. Aliyya highlighted that the presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is merely a symptom of change, not the center of change itself.

"Change is inevitable, and AI is just one example. We cannot avoid it; instead, we must face it with mental readiness and adaptability," stated Aliyya before the students.

Aliyya emphasized the importance of balancing hard skills, soft skills, and ethics when utilizing technology. She explained that to survive in a highly competitive job market, students must master three key aspects: skills, knowledge, and attitude.

"Improving skills and knowledge is easier than building the attitude that shapes a person's integrity," she asserted. She reminded the audience that the professional world is heavily based on trust; therefore, without integrity, it is difficult to survive. Students were encouraged to build networks early on by participating in various competitions and seminars to enhance their professional profiles.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Communication Science Study Program, Dr. Mokhamad Mahfud, M.Si., emphasized in his remarks that mastering AI has now become an unavoidable demand of the era. He also motivated the new students to uphold the tradition of achievement established by the study program.

"Students should seize every opportunity to gain competence. The goal is to complete undergraduate studies on time, potentially in less than four years, while remaining productive in creating works," concluded Dr. Mahfud. (Faiq, K.Ind)
