Opening of Master of Media and Communication Study Programme at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta

UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta is proud to announce the opening of a new study programme at the master's level, namely the Master of Media and Communication Study Programme. The inauguration event which took place on 23 July 2024 was attended by various important figures and practitioners in the field of communication, as well as academics and students.
Present at the event were the Head of Department and Secretary of Communication Science, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, representatives from LLDIKTI V Yogyakarta, as well as Vice Rectors 1 and 2 of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, speakers from the chairman of ASPIKOM Dr. S.Bekti Istiyanto, M.Si and Chairperson of ASIKOPTI Dr. Rika Lusri Virga. In addition, the event was also attended by invited guests from various professional associations in the field of communication, colleagues from communication science study programmes throughout Yogyakarta, as well as alumni and undergraduate students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Communication Science Study Programme.
In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr Mochamad Sodik, S.Sos, M.Si., stated, ‘The opening of the Master of Media and Communication Study Programme is a significant step forward for the faculty and university. We are committed to producing graduates who have high competence and are able to compete in the world of work, and contribute positively to society.’
Meanwhile, Vice Rector 1 of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dr. Iswandi Syahputra, S.Ag., M.Si., in his speech stressed the importance of this study programme in responding to the challenges of the digital era and globalisation. ‘Media and communication play a crucial role in current social and political developments. This master programme is expected to produce professionals and academics who can understand and overcome various dynamics in this field,’ he said.
The inauguration event was also filled with a panel discussion that presented speakers from academia and media practitioners. This discussion discussed various contemporary issues in the field of media and communication, as well as the opportunities and challenges faced by professionals in the future.
With the opening of the Master of Media and Communication Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta hopes to become a centre of excellence in media and communication education in Indonesia, as well as making a real contribution to the development of science and technology in this field.
