Review of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Communication Studies Programme Curriculum Referring to OBE

Yogyakarta. This event was attended by the Head of the Communication Science Study Program (Kaprodi), all heads of study from various study programmes at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, and received assistance from the Quality Assurance Agency (LPM) UIN Sunan Kalijaga.

OBE is a curriculum approach that focuses on the learning outcomes expected of students after completing the study programme. This approach is different from the traditional curriculum which is more input-orientated (such as course content). In OBE, curriculum design and implementation are based on specific competencies desired from graduates, making it relevant to the needs of the world of work and society.

This curriculum review meeting aims to ensure that the existing curriculum can produce graduates who are competent and ready to compete in the global labour market. The Head of Communication Science, together with other heads of departments, discussed to align the curriculum with the OBE principles, which include:
Course Learning Outcomes (CPMK): Evaluation of the competencies that students have after taking certain courses. This process is conducted every semester and is used to measure overall learning outcomes.
Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs): An evaluation that identifies the competencies that students achieve upon graduation. This includes visual assessments that can be used to provide external parties with a picture of the graduates' capabilities.
Also, Programme Educational Objective (PEO): An evaluation of graduates after several years of employment to ensure that the competencies provided during the study period are relevant and useful in their careers.

The review process involves intensive discussions facilitated by LPM UIN Sunan Kalijaga. LPM provided technical and methodological assistance to ensure that all aspects of the curriculum were evaluated thoroughly and in accordance with OBE standards. Some of the key points discussed in this meeting include:
Curriculum Adjustment: Adjusting the curriculum to be more flexible and adaptive to the changing needs of industry and technology.
Teaching Methods: Developing student-centred teaching methods, where lecturers act as facilitators who help students achieve targeted competencies.
Continuous Evaluation: Implementing continuous evaluation to ensure that learning outcomes remain relevant and up-to-date.

LPM UIN Sunan Kalijaga provides guidance and tools to conduct OBE-based curriculum evaluation. This assistance includes workshops, training, and consultation sessions for study programme heads and lecturers. LPM also assists in preparing the documents required for the accreditation process and external evaluation.

The two-day curriculum review meeting is an important step for the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Communication Studies Programme to improve the quality of education and the relevance of its graduates in the global job market. By adopting the OBE approach, it is expected that graduates of this study programme will be better prepared to face the challenges of an increasingly complex and dynamic world of work.

UIN Sunan Kalijaga's commitment to continuously improve the quality of education and innovate the curriculum is part of the effort to achieve its vision as a world-class university. Full support from LPM and active collaboration from all study programme heads show that this university is ready to move forward and adapt to the times.
