HARVESTING NEW SCIENCES IN PR TRAINING EVENTS OF COMMUNICATIONS SCIENCES UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA

Communication Studies program of UIN Sunan Kalijaga successfully held PR training activities for its students on 14-16 July 2021. The activity which lasted for three days was attended by various PR practitioners such as Drs. Imam Pratanadi, MT (Head of Public Relations and Protocol Secretariat DIY), Risma Kusumanendra, S.IP (Cristal Indonesia Management), Satyo Nugroho, SP (PR Opal Comm), Dewi Nur Indahsari Esti Rahayu, MM (Director of Tribakti Center), Rahadiyan Perestroika, MA (PR & CSR Specialist at PT. Kilang Pertamina Balikpapan), and Mutia Dewi, MIKom (Co-Founder of Bumi Aku Creative). The activities carried out through the Zoom Meeting platform aim to improve the skills of Communication Science students, especially in the PR field so that they are more ready to enter the world of work later.
The speakers who attended this activity provided various kinds of material that were diverse and useful for students. On the first day, Drs. Imam Pratandi, MT who gave material about how to manage issues, counter news & deal with the public as a government publicist, and Risma Kusumanendra, SIP withmaterial soft skills based on critical thinking in theera new normal. On the second day, the activity was attended by Satyo Nugroho, SP who provided material and practice of documentation & media monitoring by the company and Dewi Nur Indahsari Esti Rahayu, MM who brought material on the ability of MC, Public Speaking and TV Presenter. And on the last day of the PR training activity, Rahadiyan Perestroika shared knowledge about creative writing PR in the Covid-19 pandemic era and Mutia Dewi, MIKom with material on Digital and Strategic Planner PR. Head of Communication Studies Study Program, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Dr. Rama Kertamukti, M.Sn, in his speech said that the current PR is full of challenges. Technology is an inseparable part of today's PR world, so students must be sensitive to today's technology. "I hope that in this training in the future, young PR friends must understand that correctly about PR Field, that our PR skills are properly learned," said the Head of Communication Studies Study Program. In addition, the Head of Communication Studies Study Program also added that public relations must strengthen skills, at least they must understand what basic public relations research is like, content development in today's media and virtual world, able to evaluate current programs, managing issues , and the working processes of today's technology world.
On this occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Mochammad Sodiq, M.Si, said that the challenges for PR are extraordinary with the presence of AI technology, but creativity and spirituality are something that is unique to humans. "With activities like this, I hope that creativity and spirituality that are more human, more grounded, which gives more meaning to humanity will continue to grow and grow," said the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. He also welcomed this event and hoped that this activity could provide the widest possible benefit. In addition to getting knowledge from the speakers who attended, PR training participants also received offers for internships in several agencies such as the DIY Secretariat and Opal Comm. One of the PR training participants, Sani, also mentioned that participating in the PR training event held by the Communication Studies Study Program really adds insight. “The PR training activity which was held for three days also supports the materials that have been delivered in class. When in class, theoretical material is given balanced with practitioners who are very qualified in their respective fields. My hope is that the communication science study program will always be consistent in holding training events that are not taught in class in order to broaden students' and students' knowledge in the professional world,” said Sani.
